THE STORY · CANNON HILL ROAD · COVENTRY

Cut Society

Two chairs on Cannon Hill Road, and a rule that has not changed since the doors opened.

Why it opened

The salon opened because two stylists were tired of watching good haircuts ruined by bad conversations.

Clients arrived with a photograph, left with an approximation, and nobody had said the difficult thing out loud. The gap was never technical. It was that no one had asked the right question before picking up the scissors.

The house rule

So the house rule went up on the wall on the first day. Nobody touches your hair before somebody asks what you want, listens to the answer, and tells you honestly whether your hair will do it.

Sometimes that means talking a client out of the thing they came in for. It costs a booking now and again. It has also kept the diary full.

The franchise

Cut Society salons are owned and run by the stylists working in them. Head office supplies the training, the booking system, the product line and the identity. Everything else is down to whoever holds the scissors.

Birmingham, Leamington Spa, Leicester are next. If you are a senior stylist with a client list and want your own floor, get in touch.
